Our small independent hotel has been welcoming guests to experience the simplicity and serenity of the Zanzibari lifestyle, since 2004.
A beachfront haven of tranquility situated on the northern tip of Zanzibar, overlooking the beautiful turquoise coastline of Nungwi.
Individually styled cottages are set in lush tropical African gardens, surrounded by coconut palms, frangipani flowers, avocado and banana trees, aloe vera and of course flame trees.
Each room has a spacious veranda and is individually decorated with a blend of locally made Swahili wood furniture, traditional Zanzibari beds and antique pieces.
Take a dip in our garden pool, laze on your veranda or hammock before ambling through the garden gate to explore the beach, snorkel or swim or enjoy a dhow sail. It’s like living in a lush tropical garden on the beach.
Flame Tree has a deep commitment to the local community.
The majority of our staff are from the local fishing village of Nungwi. We are passionate about using local suppliers and local labour was used for the construction of the hotel.
Couples, honeymooners, independent travellers, families, divers and yogis are all welcome!

wonderful stay. Sunset view to die for
Dad and I stayed here for 3 days and loved it. The rooms were relatively comfy. And the views at sunset were amazing. Nothing could be faulted about the food, everything was fresh (I recommend to go with the fish options as opposed to chicken optioned) they also did their best accommodate dates gluten free.

Heavenly relaxation
My wife and I stopped here for four nights after our safari and was looking for a place to charge our batteries before returning home. Flame Tree Cottage turned out to be just the place for re charging. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant and the garden radiant. Check in was quick and easy although reception was unmanned a member of staff arrived promptly and showed us to our room. The room was clean and tidy.

Amazing beachfront cottages
Beautiful cottages in a great location on the beach. All air conditioned cottages were well furnished with very comfortable beds and quality linens. Breakfast is served on a patio outside of each cottage. Great facilities including pool and loungers, and within walking distance of all to see in Nungwi. 100% satisfied.

Holiday in paradise!
A gorgeous and peaceful place to holiday! The cottage was lovely and clean, and breakfast on the veranda every morning was fantastic. The pool was a great area to sunbathe away from the vendors and bustle on the beach. The food and service were impeccable and we couldn’t have felt more welcome and looked after. The staff helped us organise great excursions and an amazing private snorkelling and fishing trip. Would highly recommend for a relaxing getaway!

Amazing location and friendly staff!
Myself and three others stayed here for a week. We were amazed by the kind and helpful staff, along with the great and services they provided. Flame tree accommodates and tailored the experience to our wants. Organising a fabulous boat trip, where we snorkelled and caught fish, which they later prepared for us. I would highly recommend the cottages and would love to return in the future.

Wonderful place!
We stayed at Flame Tree Cottages for 12 days during January 2020. Our rooms were named Guava and Lime.
Wonderful staff with Mr Kombo as a remarkable representative. He did always his best and cared about all customers well being. Exceeded our expectations every day!!
Owner Mr Seif and his wife Elizabeth were very kind and the way they manage their hotel is top class.
